Understand the costs

Plan for hardware, APIs, domains, hosting, developer accounts and recurring services.

What this step is for.

AI studios can start cheaply, but costs appear in different places: hardware, API usage, storage, domains, hosting, developer accounts and optional creative services. Separate one-time purchases from recurring costs and usage-based costs.

Keep the scope small enough that you can inspect the result yourself. AI can accelerate the work, but it should not erase the distinction between a suggestion, a changed file, a successful build and a verified product.

Take one concrete action.

Create a simple monthly budget with three columns: required, optional and usage-based. Add a maximum monthly AI/API budget and a rule for when local processing is preferable.

Turn the idea into evidence.

Do the action in a disposable or backed-up workspace first. Write down what you expected to happen, what actually happened and what you changed when the result differed. This small habit becomes increasingly important as your AI tools gain access to more files and commands.

Do not move on until this is true.

You know the minimum monthly cost of keeping the studio online even if you publish nothing that month.
